FORCE 2 VIDEO SYSTEM

Your new Force 2 Video System lets you enjoy a tremendous variety of different video games over your T.V. Its versatile micro-processor "brain" and the extensive library of available operational game cartridges allow unlimited fun for the whole family. For example - you can improve your maths with "Basic Maths" and "Maths II" or defend earth against alien attacks with "Invaders".
The Force 2 Video System (F.V.S. for short) attaches easily to most brands of television; any screen size, black and white or colour. In order to understand and get the most enjoyment from your F.V.S., please take a few minutes to read this booklet.

INSTALLATION
Installation

1-1.

Disconnect your T.V. antenna from the back of your T.V.

1-2.

Plug the "F.V.S. CONNECTOR PLUG" into the T.V. CONNECTOR SOCKET on the back of your T.V.

MAINS SUPPLY. Your F.V.S. is designed to operate off your household mains supply (230V 50Hz) and is supplied complete with a three meter, three-pin power lead for connection to an ordinary New Zealand power socket.
Your F.V.S. is double insulated and does not require an earth connection. Connect the mains plug to a suitable mains outlet.

Make sure the F.V.S. is switched "OFF" then carefully insert a cartridge into the slot on the F.V.S. Note that the cartridge is inserted correctly - that is the printed label on the cartridge is the right way up and facing you.
The cartridge should slide down easily through the "door" in the F.V.S. until the cartridge connects inside. make sure the cartridge is firmly connected but do not force it.

Tune your T.V. to receive the video signal from the F.V.S. as follows:
A.

Check that the F.V.S. is connected properly and the cartridge is fully inserted. Switch the Power Switch to the "ON" position and press the "Reset" button.

B.

Switch your T.V. set on and select an unused channel on the channel selector.

C.

Adjust the tuning control on your T.V. set until the game playing field appears on the T.V. screen. When you have the set "tuned in" to the correct channel you will have a sharp clear picture.

D.

Adjust the T.V. contrast, brightness and colour controls (if using a colour T.V.) for a pleasant picture.

E.

On some T.V.s it may be necessary to adjust the "horizontal hold" or "vertical hold".

1-6.

When playing the games you will hear sound effects over the loudspeaker on your T.V. If the game sounds are not clear then it may be necessary to adjust the "SOUND CONTROL" which is located on the underside of the F.V.S. Adjust carefully with a small screw-driver. DO NOT USE FORCE TO TURN THIS CONTROL. The range of movement of this control is only one-half turn.

GAME CARTRIDGE

2-1.

The Force 2 Video System enables you to use your Game Console with different operational cartridges to play a wide variety of games. There are many game cartridges now available. Some of the cartridges utilize the keyboards on the Player Hand Controls to enter information or control game motion. The cartridges are all supplied with complete instructions and when necessary an appropriate keyboard overlay is furnished with the cartridge to indicate the key functions.

Inserting and Removing cartridges:
A.

Always switch your Force 2 Video System off when inserting or removing game cartridges.

B.

Hold the cartridge so that it is right side up and aligned with the slot of the F.V.S.

C.

Insert the cartridge down into the F.V.S. The cartridge should slide without being forced. Slide the cartridge down until you feel it connect inside the F.V.S. at the bottom of its travel. NEVER TRY TO FORCE A CARTRIDGE INTO THE F.V.S.

D.

To remove the cartridge turn the F.V.S OFF, then pull the cartridge straight up out of the F.V.S.

2-3.

PRECAUTIONS. The Game Cartridges contain sensitive electronic circuitry and should never be subjected to rough handling.

A.

Avoid storing cartridges where they will be exposed to excessive heat or moisture.

B.

Switch the F.V.S off when inserting and removing cartridges.

C.

Do not open or tamper with cartridges.

2-4.

This F.V.S. is designed to operate with all brands of television. On some T.V.s the players may occasionally appear to vibrate or 'wiggle' slightly when they are left stationery in some locations on the screen. Likewise a thin line may appear on one side of the player or playing field outlines. Neither of these conditions has any effect on play.

2-5.

If another game has not been started within a few minutes after a game is over, the system has been programmed to flash the playing field in alternating colours (on colour T.V.s) to draw your attention.

TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE

3-1.

Be sure all connections to the television and game are secure. Do not open the set. This game does not contain any user serviceable parts.

Symptom 1
  • No game.
  • Faint T.V. image or herring bone problem.
  • Cartridge is not fully inserted into the F.V.S.
  • Cartridge was inserted into the F.V.S. while power switch was "ON". Slide switch to off then back on.
  • F.V.S. not connected properly to T.V.
  • F.V.S. not connected properly to mains.
  • F.V.S. power switch not turned "ON".
  • T.V. not tuned to correct channel for F.V.S. Adjust T.V. tuning control.
  • Symptom 2
  • Picture roll.
  • Bottom line off screen.
  • Adjust "vertical hold" control on T.V. set.

  • Push game reset button on F.V.S.
  • Adjust contrast control on T.V.
  • Game "locked" to 1 particular playing field; cannot change games.
  • Push F.V.S. reset button.
  • Poor colour (on colour T.V.).
  • Adjust T.V. tuning control slightly. Adjust colour controls on T.V.
  • Weak or fuzzy sound.
  • Adjust "sound control" on F.V.S.
  • Game action does not play or does not process properly, or
  • Missing sounds, or
  • Game display is not correct on T.V. screen.
  • The game program has not been fully input into computer.
  • Check that cartridge is fully connected into the F.V.S. Press RESET key twice.
  • ALWAYS DISCONNECT FROM THE MAINS SOCKET AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED USING THE FORCE 2 VIDEO SYSTEM.

    MAINTENANCE

    4-1.

    Your Force 2 Video System has been carefully assembled using highest quality components. It has been fully tested and is designed to provide you with many years of enjoyment. Please keep the following points in mind in order to maintain your Video System in working order.

    A.

    Don't try to force game cartridges into the F.V.S. Never put pencils, pens or any other object through the slot in the F.V.S. Don't allow food crumbs, liquids or dirt to fall through the game cartridge slot.

    B.

    Prevent dust from accumulating in the game cartridge slot and falling inside the F.V.S.

    C.

    Unplug the F.V.S. from the mains when it is not in use.

    D.

    Remember to turn the power switch OFF when not in use and whenever inserting or removing game cartridges.

    E.

    Use a soft, slightly damp cloth to clean the exterior of the F.V.S.

    FOUNTAIN  WARRANTY
    Note:
    1. Before use, read and carry out the instructions in this booklet.
    2. All matters involving this warranty should, in the first instance, be referred to the retailer from whom the unit was purchased.
    3. When approaching the retailer with a warranty enquiry the following must be supplied: A) This booklet, B) T.V. Type and Model No., C) Cartridge showing fault, D) F.V.S.
    This Force 2 Video System (F.V.S.) is guaranteed, subject to the undermentioned conditions, by Fountain Marketing Ltd, to be free from manufacturing defect and faulty material for a period of ninety days from the supply in respect of the unit as a whole. This guarantee covers the repair or replacement at the company's option of any parts which are defective in material or workmanship. This does not include any labour involved nor any transportation therewith.
    The conditions referred to are:
    1. The purchaser must prove the date of sale by production of bill of sale, this warranty card or otherwise.
    2. The F.V.S. must only have been used in accordance with the instruction manual.
    3. The F.V.S. must not have been used for any commercial purposes, subjected to misuse, neglect or accident or dismantled, repaired or serviced by any person other than an authorised Fountain Service agent.
    4. Fountain shall not be liable for loss of use or any form of consequent loss and this warranty excludes and replaces all other warranties implied by law.
    5. The attached card must have been completed and posted to Fountain Marketing Limited.
